Nickelodeon (previously known as Pinwheel from December 1, 1977 until March 31, 1979) is an American cable television channel owned by ViacomCBS. Since the early 1990s and early 2000s, Nickelodeon as a brand has expanded into other territories including Europe, Middle East, Russia and Asia. It is often referred to by its shortened name, Nick, a practice that dates back to the early days of the channel. As of 2009, Nickelodeon currently has two blocks: Nick@Nite, and Nick Jr. From 2006 to 2018, Nickelodeon has been run by MTVN Kids & Family Group (now ViacomCBS Kids & Family Group) president Cyma Zarghami. Cyma left the channel and Brian Robbins served as the president. The channel is aimed mostly at children ages 6ā€“12, with the exception of their primetime block that is aimed at teenagers ages 13ā€“17.

The Fairly OddParents[]

The Fairly OddParents debuted on Nickelodeon in 1998, aired as part of the Oh Yeah! Cartoons short series of cartoons. In 2001, the show was picked up for full-time production for several episodes. Between 2002-2003, The Fairly OddParents challenged SpongeBob SquarePants and other animated programs as the highest-rated cartoon of the time although the show's popularity has waned in recent years. A live-action movie, "A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!", aired in 2011 as part of the 10th anniversary of FOP's debut in 2001, and it's ninth season debuted in 2013. On January 2017, the show left Nickelodeon and transitioned to Nicktoons to air the remaining Season 10 episodes. The show ended on July 26, 2017, concluding the series' run with 10 seasons, 172 episodes, 10 Oh Yeah! shorts, 9 TV movies, and 3 Jimmy/Timmy crossover TV movies.
