This is the only episode where the Crimson Chin is designed with having pupils in his eyes.
The mask that Timmy wears when he is Cleft is red in this episode. Subsequently, the color became black in the next episode that Cleft made an appearance (Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary).

This is the first time the Chin is depressed in an episode.
If you look closely one of the panels has the name Butch on it which is a reference to the show's creator Butch Hartman.
In the script of the episode, Chester and A.J. get more scenes and Jorgen and Mr. Crocker appear, but it did not happen in the final episode.
In the section of the comic book, "letters to the editor" we can see one of the editors' funny answers to a writer looking for dating advice, he says: "The crimson chin does not date girls, they force him to leave the toilet seat down at night, thus causing unfortunate splatter. The villainy!"
This episode has three deleted scenes that were fully animated and then cut during post-production. They were included in a video file on Nickelodeon's website at the time:
After the fake Crimson Chin actor falls over, A.J. comments on how real superheroes have 5% body fat, and measures the actor's fat, resulting in two different outcomes...
In one version, the Crimson Chin's actor has 102% body fat, to which Chester jokes "They should call him the Crimson Double-Chin!"
In the other, the Crimson Chin's actor's body fat amount is 5.01%, and A.J. dismisses him as a "poser".
When Timmy as Cleft flies off using an old-fashioned airplane coming from his chin, after lifting off with an "Up, up, and away!", he briefly comes back down and floats in the air as he says, "Uh, away!" before flying off again.
Allusions
Comic Books - This episode is a reference to comic book characters that have become aware they are fictional characters, most notably Animal Man.
Robin - Timmy's identity as Cleft is a parody of DC Comics superhero Robin, who served as Batman's sidekick.
Stan Lee - In the letters to the editor page, the Crimson Chin Author wrote "Excelsior!", which is Stan Lee's catchphrase.
Lenny Kravitz - In the letters to the editor page, a fan's name is "Elliot Kravitz", which might be a reference to this singer.
Goofs
In two scenes, Crimson Chin is shown to have a cape.
During the "Letters to the Editor" scene, the Crimson Chin sees Timmy's letter. During both the initial shot of the page and the wide shot where the Crimson Chin points out that Timmy misspelled "Chin", it's spelled correctly. However, in the zoomed in-shot when the Crimson Chin points out that Timmy wrote a letter, it's spelled, "Chyn". (Although, this only appears to the audience briefly as the Crimson Chin is blocking most of the word in most of the shot.)
In one scene, when talking, Timmy appears to be missing his buck teeth.
